SCAMP (Study of Cognition, Adolescents and Mobile Phones) is a long-term study following thousands of London teenagers to explore how digital technology, lifestyle, and environment affect health and wellbeing. Since 2014, it has involved nearly 12,000 young people from over 55 schools across Greater London.
Most studies still rely on self-reported screen time, which is often inaccurate and doesn’t show clearly how phones are used throughout the day. Questionnaires about ‘smartphone addiction’ focus on how people feel about their phone use, rather than the actual time they spend on their phones.
The Screentime Validation Study (SVS) aims to build a more accurate picture of how young people use their phones. It combines self-reported phone use with data from screen-time monitoring apps, giving researchers a clearer view of both the amount and the patterns of daily phone use.
Participants will complete a short online survey, share how much time they spend using their phones, and upload screentime data.
As a thank you, everyone who completes the survey will receive a £30 Amazon voucher.
Participation is entirely voluntary, and you and you can withdraw at any time. We take data protection very seriously. If you have any questions, please contact us at scamp@imperial.ac.uk
